As an island girl, I love to shop locally for my holiday gifts as much as possible. Our Bainbridge Island merchants strive to provide unique gifts for us to purchase all year round. I don’t know about you, but it just feels good to support local stores during the holidays. By spending locally, I know I’m doing my part to help local businesses thrive, and isn’t that what community is all about?
Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 30th so here are seven of my favorite places to “shop small” for holiday gifts and home décor treasures (in no particular order).
1. Conservatory Coastal Home
This is a seaside-inspired lifestyle store! I can always find eclectic, clean-lined, rustic, vintage or nautical home décor items that all my clients, friends and family enjoy receiving. And honestly, their seasonal throw pillows have become my weakness.

2. Salt House Mercantile
Not only does this shop have the best white-washed, wide plank hardwood floors that I covet, but also many artisan candles, soaps, jams, and other tasty treats. Their products are perfect for any hostess gift during the holidays. You can also find beautiful houseware items that make a statement in any home. And, for proud islanders and fans of Bainbridge, they have classic canvas Bainbridge Island reusable shopping bags and lunch totes.

3. The Berry Patch
Looking to buy something for the chef or baker in your life? This is the kitchen store to visit. They have all of the handy cooking tools, appliances and gift items that culinary enthusiasts and dinner party lovers could want. You name it and they’ve got it! It’s an easy, fun, one-stop-shop experience.
4. Dana’s Showhouse
This is a wonderful store to find holiday gifts, furniture and more! They always have fabulous displays of holiday décor and so many options. From lamps and frames to kids’ toys and plush pillows, there’s something here for everyone on your list.
5. Petit and Olson
With a blend of French vintage and modern styles, this shop offers unique pieces for your home. The owner travels frequently to Europe looking for the perfect items. It creates the perfect combination of elegance and the best of the island lifestyle. But be warned: this store can become an addiction. It’s hard to turn down classic women’s attire, high-end artisan jewelry, and beautiful gifts. But at least Small Business Saturday gives you a legitimate excuse to indulge.
6. Bainbridge Gardens
I love to walk through this great gift shop, especially this time of year! Not only does it get me into the holiday spirit, but I can always find something I need for my home or a gift for someone special. It’s a fun place to get new ideas on tree decorating and all things festive. The owners transform the gift shop into a literal winter wonderland. Don’t miss out on this local favorite!
7. Barn Cat
A whimsical furnishings store, Barn Cat has wonderful home décor and elegant seasonal keepsakes for holiday decorating. Located in Pleasant Beach Village, this store has become the jewel of the south end of the island. Upon arriving, you’ll feel like you’ve entered holiday heaven.
Happy Local Shopping! And, if you’re looking for fun, local holiday events to attend, check out my favorite festivities on the Kitsap Peninsula.
